Automobiles are one of the few inventions that have dramatically shifted American Culture. So much of American culture has been altered forever by the introduction of the automobile. Boomers forever changed dating with steady incomes and access to modern sedans. The 1950s saw a car culture emerge.
The family cars we know today were very different just a few decades ago. Most people resided only a few miles from where they were born before the automobile was adopted.
Ford was one of the first automotive companies to make the term 'family car' by developing the station waggon in 1929. This station waggon was named the Model A Woody Station Waggon, and it featured space for up to eight passengers. Later, Jeep introduced the Jeep Cherokee, the first modern Sports Utility Vehicle, a.k.a. the SUV.
SUVs had fancy technology such as speedometers, electric windows, and air conditioning, making them optimal for prominent families. Around this time, sedans were becoming more popular amongst American families. Sedans were an excellent choice for families because they were affordable and had better fuel economy than SUVs.
You might have heard of electric vehicles, but what exactly are they? Many people believe that electric vehicles are the future of the American family car because they have less of a carbon footprint. Electric vehicles do not consume any fuel or gasoline to run but instead use electric batteries as power for the car to run. One of the leading manufacturers in this category is Tesla Motors.
There are a few factors that will need addressing in future family cars:
- Safety - Our cars need to be held to the highest standard of protection as we not only put our lives on the line while driving but the lives of our loved ones.
- Fuel Efficiency - When it comes to the future of family cars, we know that fuel efficiency is high on our priority list to save money and reliability assurance while driving.
- Size and Cargo Space - One of the critical components to having a future-proof family car is knowing that it will have the space you need to travel with the most room.
